When is Battlezone launching?
Battlezone is launching exclusively as a launch title alongside the release of PlayStation®VR on October 13th, 2016. It will release on other platforms at a later date.
What platforms is Battlezone coming to?
Battlezone is a VR title coming first to PlayStation®4 and then later on Steam for PC [TBC], however Rebellion has always been a multi-platform developer and we’re looking into other platforms too. While we can’t confirm anything yet don’t be surprised if we add to this list in the future.
What VR platforms will Battlezone support?
We’ve already confirmed support for both PlayStation®VR and Oculus Rift™, but we are looking at the potential of other VR platforms too – though we can’t confirm anything right now.
What if I don't have VR kit? Will I still be able to play Battlezone?
We understand virtual reality isn’t an enjoyable experience for everyone, and that the hardware can be quite expensive, so we are investigating the possibility of developing a non-VR edition, although again, nothing is finalised yet!
Why is Rebellion rebooting the series? Wasn’t the original Battlezone made by Atari?
It was! The original Battlezone came out in 1980 and gained a loyal arcade following. Among them, Chris and Jason Kingsley, who went on to found Rebellion and remain as Directors today. When Atari sold the Battlezone IP in 2013, Chris and Jason jumped at the chance to re-ignite one of their most treasured games, and capture the imagination of a new generation of gamers by developing a new Battlezone game at the forefront of the new wave of VR.
But what about the Battlezone games from 1998/99?
Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about them! While the new Battlezone for VR devices is very much a reboot of the original game from 1980 we know a lot of players are fans for the 1998 and 1999 Battlezone games that offered an innovative hybrid of RTS and FPS.
We don’t want those fans to feel left out either, so that’s why we’re releasing Battlezone 98 Redux, an HD remaster of Battlezone 1998 that’s coming to Steam this spring!
